Russell, MD, former chair of the Department of Surgery at California Pacific Medical Center and clinical professor at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, has become executive director of the American College of Surgeons, Chicago, Ill. He succeeds David J. Nahrwold, MD.
  • R. Gordon Douglas, Jr, MD, who recently retired as head of the Merck Vaccine Division and is now a consultant at the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md, has received the Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
  • Josef E. Fischer, MD, chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, has been appointed the college's associate dean of commuity affairs. J. Wesley Alexander, MD, chief of the college's Division of Immunology, has been appointed to the Altemeier Chair.
