SSRI Tapering and Suicidal Ideation in the TORDIA Study for Treatment of Depressed Adolescents—Reply

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 134 words of the full text and any section headings.

In Reply: We appreciate the comments of Drs Anghelescu and Regen regarding the TORDIA study. With respect to the switching strategy, we chose a conservative approach in this adolescent population rather than extrapolate from a strategy used in adults. Because our study was not placebo-controlled, the results from TORDIA cannot directly address the question of suicidality and antidepressant use. However, prospective studies specifically designed to address this issue are warranted.

Financial Disclosures: Dr Wagner reported past research support from Abbott Laboratories, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, Forest Laboratories, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Organon, Pfizer, and Wyeth-Ayerst; and being a consultant/advisory board member for Abbott Laboratories, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Cyberonics, Eli Lilly, Forest Laboratories, GlaxoSmithKline, Janssen, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Novartis, Ortho-McNeil, Pfizer, Organon, Otsuka, Solvay, UCB Pharma, Wyeth Ayerst. No other financial disclosures were reported.
