The 5-Minute Consult Clinical Companion to Women's Health is a new text within a well-established series that follows a standardized format well known for its readability, accessibility, and rapid summary of often complex topics. The formidable intent of the 5-Minute Consult series is to summarize—in 3 pages or less—the majority of relevant, useful, and critical information needed by any clinician in addressing a specific diagnosis or symptom as it presents in the primary care setting. The text both succeeds and falters by its adherence to this format.
The basic structure comprises alphabetized diagnoses, each a maximum of 3 pages and each following a structured format that opens with key clinical points and proceeds through basics (description, epidemiology, incidence, risks, pathophysiology), diagnosis (signs and symptoms, history, physical examination, testing), treatment, and follow-up.
