—Dr Taylor raises valid and important points concerning the cluster of cases of HIV infection in the Florida dental practice that was investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and was referred to in the article by the Working Group of the New York Academy of Medicine.

The mode of transmission of those cases has never been clarified, and it is plain that there is a dearth of information, at least at this point, on which to base any further action. Nevertheless, two important areas should be commented on. The first is the importance of understanding the total absence of any other cases of transmission from a health care worker to a patient, despite the fact that we are 10 years into this epidemic.
